On May 10, 2025, The director of Future Innovative Rising Engineers & Entrepreneurs (FIRE), Sanetra Newman (pictured on right), presented MSBR board member Dr. Janine Smith the Sponsor Award. FIRE is a nonprofit, volunteer STEM program that offers K–12 students transformative hands-on experiences in cybersecurity, robotics, and engineering. One hundred percent of FIRE graduates have pursued higher education, with the majority entering STEM fields. In 2025, FIRE was among the 21 programs that MSBR provided grants to, encouraging STEM leadership in Maryland in support of a thriving aerospace workforce for the future.
